Schiff Statement on January 6 Commission Vote

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, released the following statement on the passage of the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act:

“The January 6 insurrection was a brutal assault on our Capitol and our democracy. To prevent another such act of domestic terrorism, we need to fully understand and thoroughly account for that day. While a commission is the bare minimum in our efforts to uncover the truth of what fueled this national tragedy, it is a critical step so we can begin to address future risks.

“Even while the Capitol was still under siege, House Republicans challenged the outcome of the election and propagated the Big Lie about voter fraud. The 175 House Republicans who voted against this commission did so for the same reason they amplified falsehoods about the election — Trump demanded they do so regardless of the consequences to our democracy.

“But make no mistake, with or without Republican support, we will have a full accounting.”
